Website audit

Free Website Audit Tool

A website audit is a structured check of everything that affects how your site performs for visitors and search engines. SiteScore AI runs one in a couple of minutes: it crawls a sample of your pages, runs fixed checks across eight categories and gives you one score out of 100 with the evidence behind every finding.

What is a website audit?

It is a review of a site's technical setup, on-page SEO, speed, content and usability against known best practice. The point is not a grade for its own sake — it is a prioritised list of problems you can actually fix. For a longer explanation, read our guide to what a website audit is and when you need one.

Why businesses audit their websites

Most sites drift: pages get added without descriptions, redirects break, images grow, plugins slow things down. An audit catches that before it costs enquiries. It is also the sensible first step before a redesign, a migration, or hiring someone to do SEO, because it tells you what is actually wrong.

What SiteScore checks

Eight categories, each with its own weight in the overall score:
  • SEO: titles, meta descriptions, headings, canonical tags, indexability, internal links, image alt text, structured data and social tags
  • Technical: HTTPS, HTTP-to-HTTPS redirects, robots.txt, status codes, a sample of broken internal links and character encoding
  • Performance: Lighthouse lab metrics from Google PageSpeed Insights, plus real-visitor Core Web Vitals where Google has enough data
  • Mobile: viewport setup, zoom restrictions, fixed-width layouts and very small text
  • Content: visible text, paragraph and heading structure, readability, links within the copy and near-duplicate pages
  • Accessibility: alt text, form labels, link and button names, page language, heading order and ARIA references
  • Local SEO: phone numbers, address signals, LocalBusiness schema and a findable contact page
  • Conversion: calls to action, enquiry forms, contact visibility and trust signals — heuristic advice, labelled as such

How the audit works

We fetch your homepage, then up to five more pages found through its links and your XML sitemap. We read robots.txt, the sitemap and each page's HTML and response headers, check a sample of internal links for errors, and request a speed test from Google PageSpeed Insights. Every result is measured; if something cannot be measured — a page that needs JavaScript to show its text, for example — the audit says so instead of guessing.

What you receive

An overall score, a score for each category with the checks behind it, every issue with its severity, the evidence we found and how to fix it, a crawl-coverage and score-confidence note, and an AI-written summary that explains the findings in plain English. The AI only reads the measured findings; it never invents issues.

Who should use it

Business owners checking whether their site is holding them back, marketers looking for quick wins, freelancers and designers checking work before handover, and agencies who need a defensible starting point before quoting. If you work on other people's sites, see how SiteScore works for agencies.

Common questions

What is a website audit?
A structured check of a site's SEO, technical setup, speed, content and usability that produces a prioritised list of fixes.
Is SiteScore free?
Yes. You can run a free audit without a card or an account. Paid plans (Pro at £15 a month, Agency at £59 a month) add saved history, AI writing tools, monitoring, branded reports and agency features.
What does the SiteScore score mean?
It is a weighted average of the category scores, each built from fixed checks with fixed weights. 80 and above is good, 55–79 needs attention, and below 55 is critical. Anything we could not measure is left out of the score rather than counted as a fail.
Can I audit a client's website?
Yes, as long as the site is publicly reachable. Pro and Agency plans let you save audits per client, compare scores over time and export reports; Agency adds your own branding.
Does SiteScore guarantee higher Google rankings?
No, and no honest tool can. SiteScore shows what is measurably wrong on your pages and what to fix first. Rankings depend on many things an audit cannot see, such as competition and links from other sites.

Run one audit and you will see the whole picture: the score, the categories pulling it down, and the pages involved.
