SEO audit

Free SEO Audit Tool

An SEO audit checks whether search engines can find, read and understand your pages. SiteScore's SEO category runs the on-page and crawl checks below on every page it analyses, and shows exactly what it found on each one.

Titles

Every page should have a title that describes it. We check the title exists, whether it is likely to be cut off in results (roughly over 65 characters) or unusually short, and whether other crawled pages share the same title.

Meta descriptions

The description is often used as the snippet under your result. We check it exists, sits roughly between 70 and 170 characters, and is not duplicated across pages.

Headings

We check for a single, non-empty H1 that states the page's main subject, and flag empty headings. Heading order is scored in the Content category so the same problem is not counted twice.

Internal links

We count internal links on each page and flag vague or empty link text such as "click here". Links inside the body copy are measured separately as a content signal.

Canonical tags

We check each page declares a canonical URL, that it is a valid address on your own domain, and that it does not contradict a noindex directive.

Indexability

We read the robots meta tag and the X-Robots-Tag response header. A noindex on the homepage is critical; on other pages it is flagged for you to confirm, because it is often intentional on login or thank-you pages.

Crawlability

We look for an XML sitemap, check it is declared in robots.txt, and record how many pages could be discovered from the homepage. robots.txt rules, status codes and broken links are scored in Technical SEO.

Structured data

We detect JSON-LD blocks, list the schema types found and flag blocks that are not valid JSON. We do not validate eligibility for Google rich results.

Image optimisation

We check for missing alt attributes and for images without width and height, which can cause layout shift. File-size savings come from the performance test when Google's speed data is available.

Common questions

What does an SEO audit check?
On-page elements (titles, descriptions, headings, links, images, structured data) and whether search engines are allowed and able to crawl and index the page.
Can SiteScore tell me if a page is indexed by Google?
No. We can tell you if a page tells search engines not to index it, but confirming what Google has actually indexed needs Google Search Console.
Does SiteScore guarantee higher Google rankings?
No, and no honest tool can. SiteScore shows what is measurably wrong on your pages and what to fix first. Rankings depend on many things an audit cannot see, such as competition and links from other sites.
Is SiteScore free?
Yes. You can run a free audit without a card or an account. Paid plans (Pro at £15 a month, Agency at £59 a month) add saved history, AI writing tools, monitoring, branded reports and agency features.

The SEO category is one of eight in every audit. Run one to see how each of your pages performs against these checks.
